Added synopsis' of the films and tag lines to give a more finished feel - however i think the background needs something. Perhaps a monochromatic illustration like the download line up poster from my inspo.

<![CDATA[adding texture to illustrations (photoshop)]]>Thu, 22 Apr 2021 19:17:42 GMThttp://abbiedickinson.grillust.uk/film-festival/adding-texture-to-illustrations-photoshopTo make my illustrations more fitting to the vintage comic style I am adding paper and ink textures to the designs.

Here are the 3 textures I am using...

ADDING PAPER TEXTURES

I added the paper texture on top of my illustration and changed the layer to DIVIDE.
Here I changed the layer to COLOUR BURN - colour is more saturated in this style.
I tried MULTIPLY but the it didn't add enough texture for what I'm going for - I decided on on the first layer style (DIVIDE).

MOVING ON TO ADDING THE INK TEXTURES

added the first ink texture on top and set the layer to EXCLUSION - too grainy and is making the image too light.
Changed the layer to DIFFERENCE - I prefer this, keeps the image dark and appropriate for the horror theme.
I wanted more of a distressed look to the solid black sections so I added another texture to just those darker parts. To do this I selected all the black with the colour range option and created a layer mask with the selection.
i changed the layer to LIGHTEN COLOUR - made the black too light/dull
I switched the layer back to normal and just turned the opacity to 10% - this worked nicely on the darker sections but obviously did nothing to the solid black.

THE FINAL LAYERS & OPACITIES

I will be applying these qualities/properties to all of my illustrations & posters.

A selection of images from comics/graphic novels including blood, looking at how they stylise it to fit with the aesthetic of the novel. Couldn't find many examples of older comics portraying blood, gore seems to be more of a modern addition to comics.
A selection of images of blood splatters and drips for reference.

<![CDATA[TICKET RESEARCH/INSPO]]>Mon, 29 Mar 2021 23:00:00 GMThttp://abbiedickinson.grillust.uk/film-festival/ticket-researchinspo
I decided to look into old cinema and event tickets for inspiration, as I feel it would compliment the overall brand identity I have created, the vintage style to reflect that the films being shown are classic.

TAKE AWAYS FROM THIS RESEARCH

What I take from this research is that a lot of black ink was used, and as the printing wasn't as clean as it is now there is a lot of grunge elements to the tickets - this will work well with the brand identity as the posters I am working on have those same grunge textures present throughout.
I will also look into unique shapes, as a lot of these vintage tickets aren't you standard rectangle shape.

<![CDATA[Vintage horror typographY]]>Wed, 24 Feb 2021 20:52:38 GMThttp://abbiedickinson.grillust.uk/film-festival/vintage-horror-typographyHere I have collected a series of type faces from various horror comic covers. I’m going auto apply them to my chosen title and experiment with a few to see if they could work successfully as a logo.

<![CDATA[MooDboards/inspiration (vintage horror comics)]]>Wed, 24 Feb 2021 20:44:38 GMThttp://abbiedickinson.grillust.uk/film-festival/moodboardsinspiration-vintage-horror-comicsManchester has a large youth presence, and alternative culture, the northern quarter specifically. A lot of that alternative/hipsters culture is inspired by the vintage, and in terms of horror vintage comic covers are very iconic. So I’m hoping to take Inspiration from their style and apply them to the films shown at the festival to produce posters.
